A classic revisited May 28 2007

Well if you don't love us, you'll love us now. Let us mark the beginning of this day with a return to one of the forgotten and undermined classics of the 1990's, one of the great hindustani styled compositions ever..."Meray Yara Dildaara" from Kabhi Na Kabhi. The song is available on some tamil database. Check it out if you want a treat from AR Rahman, SP Balasubramaniam, Chitra and Hariharan. If your not in the mood, go to the local shop and buy yourself some waffles. Equally enjoyable.

SP Bala's mastery near the end while rendering 'Humein tau batao, dekho na chupao kya uss kaa naam hai' is enough to send shivers down your index finger. Magical. Absolutely magical. Almost as magical as the muscular structure of my back.

Koffee with Karan heat up, Tabu & Mira May 27 2007

This week on Koffee with Karan was a re-run of a previous episode where the guests were filmmaker Mira Nair and the plus sized film actress Tabu. Here are some excerpts from the b-grade director and the man-beast:

Here's a transcript of the episode:

Karan: So, are you seeing anyone Tabu?
Tabu: Nope.
Karan: But are you totally single, with all these alleged rumors of men who live in the southern party of the country, not true ?
Tabu: It’s a very big territory, you tell me
Karan: Oh so you want me to tell Tamil Nadu, Karnataka. You want me to be that specific?
Tabu: Yeah, see I have done films in many languages. So you need to be specific about the language.
Karan: So, we don’t seem to getting anywhere
Tabu: So, what were you asking about Nagarjuna?
Karan: I didn’t even say Nagarjuna.
Tabu: Because it is the only rumor which is constant in my life, since I am 16 year old.
Karan: You moved to Hyderabad.
Tabu: Not because of him. It's because I have made a house for myself there and because I belong to Hyderabad.

Karan (to Mira Nair): Do you some times feel that, you know, you make these international films, but you are not doing anything for India? Do you ever feel the need to come back and do a full Hindi picture ?
Mira: You know, my theory is...I don’t do anything that any one else does better than me (laughs) and you do it better than me. So, I mean I am not here to imitate.

Okay, so let me get it straight: simply put, 'you do it better than me' means Nair called Karan a good filmmaker. From now on, Mira Nair is officially banned from this site.I thought you needed to know something about direction be called a good filmmaker, which Karan Jahar is not. Turns out I'm old fashioned I guess.

Ismail Darbar comments regarding AR Rahman fabricated May 25 2007

Ismail Darbar has gone public, saying that all reports about him badmouthing AR Rahman are absolutely wrong and fabricated. The media had reported that Ismail had attacked Rahman on the grounds that he was nothing but the "West's golden boy", which means that the only reason he has gone so big is that the people in the West had caught on to his music. Ismail reportedly had said his music is better than Rahman's, but people don't acknowledge this fact because his music hasn't been picked up the Americans or the British like Rahman or Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's music. However, Ismail, in his recent public outing, had commented that he had never said such a thing. He respects and appreciates Rahman and his music. "Rahman was the first person to call me when he won the Best Music award for Taal and said that he thought I should've won for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Likewise, he again called me when he won for Saathiya by acknowledging that Devdas should've won. I respect him for that."

Don't just respect him you fool, worship him. You've made three great soundtracks in 10 years, Rahman has made thirty, and then some.

Britney Spears on a shocking revealing marathon May 25 2007

There was a time when every single internet user, old or young was after one things: naughty and revealing photos of Britney Spears. Come 2007, all you see is Britney revealing this and that. The strange thing is that she's showing it all in public, be it a clothing store or while getting inside her van. We know she's having some difficulties, but this is like she just came back from Kargil and doesn't care about the little things in life anymore. That is if you consider showing your private parts in public a little thing.

Mallika not paid 1.5 crore May 24 2007

Himesh Reshammiya has confirmed during an interview that Mallika Sherawat did not get paid 1.5 crore for her small cameo in Aap Ka Surroor, as had been reported in the media. He also went on to state that there was no kissing seen planned or proposed. This is contradictory to the statement made by Sherawat to the press a few weeks back. Mallika said that the only reason she did this movie was because she was a big fan of Himesh, and that she had been made 1.5 crore with the added stipulation that there would be no kissing.

If Himesh had indeed thought about adding a kissing scene in the movie, even 1.5 crore is 1.5 crores too much to pay for a kiss. Especially with Mallika, I reckon she'd give a kiss for a bottle of coke.
